I just had the transmission completely rebuilt and I'm no expert but with that amount of slack in the rear end the problem definitely lies in there.

Now I have a dilemma. While I love the TTB and want to build it up right everything I need to straight axle my truck is sitting under this one.

Then again I probably won't. Sure it'd be simple and cool but with the amount of off-roading i do in this truck it's really unnecessary. And it'd probably be more $$ to refurbish that one to use than it'll be to lift the TTB the way I want to.

Damn, logic is winning. Now I'm feeling old.

The NP205 would be nice but that's unnecessary for the same reasons

I know it's probably a stupid question to ask but you did check your driveshaft u-joints right? Just thought I'd ask. Sometimes the simplest things can slip the mind lol.

I like the flag painted on the headache rack. I never noticed it

I was honestly hoping I had a stupid moment and that's what it was but if you watch it you can see that the driveshaft and the yoke have no play between eachother and the large movement is made by the yoke itself. So that means it's boogered haha.

Yeah a friend of mine repainted the rack when I put it on the truck and did a great job on it but I painted over it about a year later. Working in a bad part of town didn't want some a**holes busting up my truck because they don't understand history.

My '89 is about the same noise. Mines rear axle gear lash. Been that way 30K. The pinion nut was loose (behind flange) still too much gear lash..

Well this one isn't going to last much longer. It's had most of the fluid in it leak out through the pinion seal from what I suspect was a plugged axle vent. Whoops.

So I was wrong the speedometer is driven off of the back of the transfer case not the rear axle. Strange I could've sworn it was. Frees up a few more years of choices though if I only have to worry about gear ratio and overall condition.
