Default 1990 F150 - 306 engine build up

I've already posted this up on a few other forums I'm on, figured I might as well donate on this one too:

Started the engine build-up for my truck:
302 bored .030 over:

Pile of parts:

Heads assembled:

GT40P Heads installed:

FMS 1.6 Roller rockers installed:

A9L ECU, Mass Air conversion harness, C&L 76mm MAF, Dynomax Ultra-Flo X muffler, Magnaflow polished 2.75" exhaust tips are all in a new pile, I haven't had a chance to take any pictures of them. Once I get the CompCams 6.400" pushrods, I can put the Explorer intake on it, and it's pretty much ready to swap items from the truck onto it and drop it in. I'm shooting for having it up and running by the 18th. More pictures to follow.

I got the exhaust tips in this weekend, muffler is ready to go on. I need to order some hi-flo catalytic converters, might as well keep it emissions legal, even though I'm going to remove the smog pump and stuff from it. Still waiting on the pushrods, should have those this afternoon, then I can finish assembly of the top end.

I can't wait to start tearing the truck apart and putting everything into it.

Mainly, it's just a matter of money. I spent a lot of time looking around for the parts I wanted, versus what's available. I originally started this project to put into a Mustang, but I got rid of that car a couple years ago.

It was supposed to be a budget build, but I've got just under $3700 into the engine right now. You could probably get by with finding a few more used items. I started sourcing up parts back in 2006, dropped it all off at the machine shop 9/06, and it was ready for me to pick it up 10/06. It's been sitting there for the past couple years, because I didn't have anything to put it into. I just got it out of the machine shop last month, and it took me about 3 hours to assemble everything.

It shouldn't take more than a month to get all the parts, I've been seeing a lot of them floating around, so it wouldn't be that hard to duplicate this setup - or build one very close to it - it's just a matter of how much you are willing to spend. Listed below is everything I currently have in/for my truck. Items in italics denote breakdown of pricing, items in bold are new parts. The build-up and install, I'm doing myself, so I'm saving myself the labor of someone else doing all the work I just bought the truck 2/09.

Well, this weekend, being that I was waiting on parts to finish the top end of the engine, I decided to work on the appearance of the truck. I removed the chrome trim on the wheel well lips, and all the body molding. Being that I am going to paint the truck, I went ahead and pulled the badges off of it as well. I think it went a long way towards giving the truck a cleaner look. It is currently silver/maroon two-tone and will be getting a full color change to Medium Charcoal Metallic, factory Mustang color. I'll also be doing a 3/5 drop on it and running some 20" MB Gunner 5's on it.

This sounds like a HELL of a project. Wish I had that kind of money to put into mine. I would deff build my 302. Also, looks like your a gearhead from looking at the vehicle related things in your garage. ETC., Mazda RX-7, other block, another intake, an amp, tool box with jegs on the side. I cant focus on appearance, only how it goes at the moment. Which its been pretty good lately! No major fixin since the brake job around feburary i believe. One of the calipurs went bad and ate the entire rotor before I could do anything about it!

The RX7 has an LS1 and 6spd in it, it's going down for a dyno tune on the 24th. Looking for 450-470hp at the wheels, with its current mods. That other block belongs to my business partners truck (he also owns the RX7), 1996 Dodge Ram 4x4. It's a 360 Magnum. We actually got that engine in, he's waiting on injectors and a few small parts before it can fire up. I've got an '83 Capri RS that I'm doing an IRS swap, 6spd and a 408.

I bought this truck with a new K&N filter, MSD Coil, and Silverstar Ultra headlights. Also had all new tires on it and a new water pump and alternator. While it's ok in stock form, I had the 306 sitting around, figured I might as well put it to good use And if I'm going to keep the truck, I gotta make it look good, so anything I can do to it in my spare time that costs little to nothing, I'm willing to do.

That sucks about that caliper, they can cause some damage if left to their own devices

how much power do you think this build will put down? And thats pretty rediculous in a RX-7. Must be wicked fast! and I havent really ever heard good things about the 360. Only bad things. A friend had one in his 96 dodge ram and it ate spark plugs like no other. Was fouling them out like mad. He put a mild cam in it and some other things, might have not done it right.

And I had a couple questions. A 306 is the 302 bored .030 over correct? and whats the advantage of the GT40P heads and roller rockers? I like to know what the advantages and disatavantages are to things. And Like I said, like to do something like this myself down the road.
