Default 1990 Automatic Transmission

The sticker on the door of my 1990 F150 has an "E" indication in the spot for Transmission. Does this indicate an E40D Transmission?

Not sure about the door code, but I think the e4od is the only one with the OD button on the lower dash panel.

My transmission shifted poorly with cheap fluid. I tried cheap fluids twice. Same poor performance came back after about 3,000 miles each time. When I upgraded the fluid to some real stuff, it shifted smoothly. I now use Valvoline Maxlife in my transmission. I hear that Castrol High Mileage and Mobil 1 ATF works good in our trucks as well. One thing I do know and that is that my truck did not like cheap fluid at all.

Just my 2 cents.

3 speed is a C6, valve body might be getting hung up.
