Transmission swap?

Transmission swap?
Hey I am new to all of this. But I am in desperate need of help! I have a 1993 f150 that has a 4.9 in it. It has the Mazda transmission right now. But the shifter is stuck in a gear that is were second use to be. The truck acts like it is in 4th gear when you try to move it. The shifter will not come out of that gear. I'm wondering if I could rebuild the trasmision or just buy one. I have not been able to get inside of it yet. Friday I will be off of work and maybe I'll have more information. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the shift forks are worn out. It I common for the shift forks to move out of place in the Mazda transmissions. They are very easy to fix yourself though. All you have to do is unbolt the top of the transmission from inside the truck to get to the shift forks. If you want a temporary fix, you can try to "push" the forks back into place with the gear selector. I have had to do that a few times to get it home..

I wouldn't think it would cause the rough idle. Was it rough before the transmission issues you were having? If yes, I highly doubt the transmission was the cause. If no, The only way I could see if it was related to the transmission, is if it was partially in gear where you thought neutral was. If that were the case, you would start to roll, unless reverse and a forward gear were engaged at the same time. That would be very bad. And you would probably know it.
