Post 1988 F150 351 Engine wont turn over

Im new to the whole repair topic, i've been learning slowly with each vehicle I have but I have came to a stand still with my truck.

The water pump has been spewing water randomly, so im assuming its going out. Yesterday after floating the river I had to put more water in the radiator to get home. Well my buddy forgot to put the cap back on the radiator and closed the hood before I went back to look. All the way home the temp read fine, truck ran fine, but when I got home I shut the truck off with no odd clicking noises or nothing, and noticed the cap had been off. We put more water in the radiator and went to turn the truck back on, then no response.

It won't turn over whatsoever, and doesn't even click. My guess as well as a few friends is that the battery isn't holding enough umph to turn the truck over.

Also last winter the alternator randomly caught fire when my boyfriend dropped me off at work and he was on the way home. I have heard of this year of trucks and their alternators they tend to go out a lot. So possibly the battery and the alternator has gone out again? Any help would be great, advise on other things to check as well. Thanks!

Water pump is probably leaking while off, and not leaking while running. This happens when they are bad. Check all battery cable connections, both ends. Check the fusible links which are also bolted to the solenoid with the positive battery cable.

Does it crank?

Nevermind, you already said it doesn't even click. When my starter went, it would make the faintest little thud, and nothing else would happen.

Like your friends think, the battery may not have the oomph, but, just pull it and take it to the local napa or where ever and have it tested. They don't charge.

I'm just throwing stuff out there, Sean'll be more of a help.
