Question 1986 starter solenoid 300/6

I have an '86 with about 160,000, and after about 6 months the solenoid gets finicky and only works about half the time. I can get out and jumper the lugs and it starts, but I hear NO clicking what so ever. What should I be looking for that may cause this problem. I couldn't find any links in the forum, but I am new here.

Thanks,

Denny

Hi Denny,
I have an 1989 F-150 w/300-6 in the past few months I have changed out/replaced ,selinoid, starter, and all wiring from battery or seinoide to starter. You're wires will get that green corroision inside that copper gets and although looking good from outside it cannot carry the current. All of this is really cheap to do if you do it yourself. It really made a difference in my truck and cured some aggravating issues!

If you already replaced the solenoid, check the 90 deg. push on connector that goes on the starter switch stud, they sometimes get either burnt or corroded, or check the ignition switch.

Lightbulb 1986 starter solenoid 300/6

Thanks for the ideas, never thought about the wiring being the culprit. I will check the wires out/ replace them and see what happens.

Thanks again,

Denny
