My 97 F150 with the 4.6 has roughly 176,000 miles on it now. On my last fill-up I had to use 87 octane fuel (I normally run 89). On my way home on the freeway it sounded like someone was shaking a can full of rocks or marbles. I had to back off the throttle because the detonation was so bad. The fuel I used was Mobil, not a no-name brand gas. I usually run 2 bottles of Seafoam in the gas tank (holds 30 gallons) every 12k miles and the engine was Seafoamed through the brake booster line 30k ago. I just filled up the truck with 91 octane gas and threw in 2 bottles of Lucas products fuel cleaner today... Seemed to smooth out the rough idle but what else could cause such bad detonation? Do these trucks have knock sensors? I checked for vacuum leaks using carb spray and everything came out gravy. Also it has 30k on new 02 sensors:help:

I want to lift it a little (not into that "Hurley-Cowboy" looking huge show trucks) I am not hella rich so the fancy lifts will never happen for me, lol.

Can I get away with just a leveling kit?

Also what rims tire combo should I go with?

Bascially I am just looking at options now from people. Thanks

Oh and pics are always good!:thumbsup:

Now in the market for a 4X4 truck.

So I'm looking here for some advice.

Needs:
4X4
Long Box

Here's the questions..... What would be the best choice???

Seems that something in the 2004-2006 model year range seem to be in the pricepoint that I'm looking at.

4.6L.... 5.4L... Diesel...

With the economy the way it is there are a LOT of these available all over the place, so some pointers of what to look for while I'm looking at trucks would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Ontario, Canada, and I just bought a house in a rural area, and this truck will be used to work, to haul stuff, and do some towing.

It'll have to be able to tow a 3000lb racecar, and a 4600lb classic at times.

Will not be doing any serious off-roading but it will see some duty in snow, light mud and grass. As well as driven on the road of course.

I'm looking to get into the truck in the next week or so.

Once I've made the purchase I'll be back with a lot more questions as I'll need to do some modding to make it "Mine"

Ferocious attack kitten is available for adoption to any home willing to accept him.

This destructive kitty has been trained as a proud warrior and will fiercely defend your house, even against you. Well-trained since 10-weeks of age to attack anything in his presence, he will protect your family from evil things, including the following:

* insects

* other trained attack kittens

* babies

* toilet paper

* anything under a blanket

* unwanted house guests
* paper bags

* floor rugs

* Chuck Norris

* Feet.

Great with children (assuming you dont like the children). Probably best used for professional catfighting. He is housebroken, but only because he wants to be. This attack cat has trained himself to seek out his food anywhere you hide it and rip the bag open to feed himself, great for those who travel extensively. Also trained to drink water out of toilet bowls and dishwater from items in the sink. Knows how to open some doors. He will find you wherever you hide.

Neutered (trust me, you wont want to him to procreate). Has not been declawed, but you'll figure that out really fast.

Understands and responds to a variety of vulgar and profane verbal commands. Has a very soft and furry belly, like a teddy bear - however he will bite your face if you try to touch it.

Willing to accept trades. Potential adopters must have experience with trained attack-kittens... please be prepared to show scars.

For the love of God, someone please take this thing out of my house.

Hi.

I've got an 07 lariat with the factory 6 disc changer. Almost every time I start the truck, the cd changer cycles through all 6 slots without being prompted. It does this regardless of whether a cd is in or not.

I listen almost exclusively to sirius, so the radio is always on that setting, not the cd player.

Is this changer on its way out or what?

Thanks.

Good day all,

I searched but could not find the answer to this question, so I'm just gonna ask. I have a 97 F150 4x4... Yep, green as my username states... I got it with a bad crank... The number 8 cylinder bearings are in pieces in the oil pan and the owner must have driven it like that for some time... So the block is toast, more or less... I found a 2001 motor, complete, intake to pan and wiring... Can I drop that in my 97, and make it work with a few wiring mods and such? Anyone done this? Maybe have a small or detailed write-up?

Thanks much all!!

Cheers!!

This morning when I went to start my truck to go to work, it started up and then immediately stalled. When I turn the key to the on position, you can hear the fuel pump run, like normal. There is plenty of gas in both tanks. I finally got the truck to stay running by keeping my foot on the gas pedal. After several minutes, I took my foot off the pedal and the truck stayed running, but it idled very roughly. I took a chance and drove to work and the truck did not stall on me. When I got to work I turned the truck off and waited a minute and then re-started her and she stayed running and the idle seemed fine.

My question is does this sound like a fuel filter issue? As I stated, I can hear the fuel pump charge the system when I turn the key to on, so I don't think it's a fuel pump. Any suggestions are appreciated. :)
